Can You Get an STD Throughout Dry Humping?

August 15, 2018

Frottage is the technical name for what two individuals are doing when they rub their bodies against each other for sexual pleasure. Additionally, it is known by such colorful terms as”pants burning” and”dry humping.”

When you take part in frottage while wearing clothing, it’s very safe sex. The only significant risk is falling off the bed. If you remove your clothing, dry humping is still relatively secure, but it’s possible to pass on particular diseases that are transmitted via contact.

Although frottage is a relatively safe form of sexual activity, it is likely to get an STD when you are dry humping somebody if their infected skin rubs against yours.

The Hazards

To know the risks of dry humping, it helps to know that STDs could be broken down into two groups:

  1. Diseases that are spread by bodily fluids — such as blood, vaginal secretions, and semen.
  2. Diseases that are spread by skin-to-skin contact

HIV, chlamydia, and gonorrhea can only be spread by contaminated bodily fluids, so there’s basically no probability of getting any of them when you’re dry humping someoneĀ — bodily fluids are not involved. However, there are lots of different diseases that may be spread by infected skin rubbing uninfected skin. These diseases include:

  • Herpes
  • HPV
  • Molluscum Contagiosum
  • Syphilis

These types of diseases may be transmitted with numerous levels of ease during frottage where someone’s infected epidermis is rubbing on yours.

But, such ailments need skin-to-skin contact for transmission. That’s the reason why frottage whilst wearing clothing is usually regarded as safe. Theoretically, it’s possible for an open sore to float through cloth and transmit diseases. It’s not likely, but it’s still a good idea to prevent aggressive contact with sores.

Even if the infected person doesn’t transmit the disease to their spouse, they might make their own situation worse. Clothing rubbing on a lesion can irritate itĀ — risking either a secondary disease or the disease spreading through self-inoculation.

Notice: Frottage refers to the action of sexual rubbing, and there is nothing unusual or unhealthy about it as a sexual activity. Many couples engage in it on a regular basis. In contrast, frotteurism refers to having unhealthy dreams about dry humping and similar pursuits or engaging in nonconsensual frottage.
