Regrettably, due to a lack of health insurance and financial struggles, many women miss having regular pap smears.
But thanks to government and nonprofit programs, no woman has to go without having a regular Pap smear because of financial concerns. This is because of local county health departments throughout the country, as well as a federally funded program, which supply low cost or free Pap smears, an important screening test for cervical cancer.
Low Price and Free Pap Smear Clinics
Local county health departments and women’s clinics offer you free and cheap Pap smears. For the prosecution, the expense of the test is generally based on income level.
Your regional Planned Parenthood can also offer low-cost Pap smears. Planned Parenthood is an organization that offers sexual and reproductive health services to individuals, regardless of income. You can find your regional Planned Parenthood clinic by visiting their website or by calling (800) 230-PLAN.
The National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program
The National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program is a federally funded program that helps uninsured and displaced women get regular Pap smears.
The program is available to qualified women ages 18 to 64 who don’t have any insurance (or whose insurance doesn’t cover screening exams) and whose annual income is at or below 250 percent of the federal poverty level.
Girls between the ages of 40 and 64 can also experience breast cancer screening.
To get a free or low-cost Pap smear through the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program, simply find the state where you reside on the list below and call the supplied toll-free number.

A Word From Verywell
It is essential to note that in addition to a periodic Pap smear, your doctor can also order testing in your own cervical cells for human papillomavirus (HPV), a virus that is related to cervical cancer. The good news is your HPV test can be done at the same time as your Pap smear. Then, depending on your age, medical history, and Pap smear and HPV test results, your health care provider will advise you on when to follow-up.
As a last tidbit, it is important to remember to call if you do not receive your Pap smear results–no news doesn’t mean decent news, so stay in contact with the practice that performed your evaluation.
